Value
This isn't so much a "how to" lesson, it's more of an explanation on what value is.
Value is a range from highlight (the brightest highlight being white) to shadow (the darkest being black) and all of the tones in between.
Value isn't always black and white, but for now, assume it is. We'll get into value with color in later lessons.The 3 tones to know are white
(highlight) middle grey, and black (shadow). Here is a simple 11 step value scale.


As we'll see in the next lesson, we can use value to make a 2D drawing look 3D. For example, we can make this circle, look like a sphere by using a
range of value to give the illusion of form.

One Last note about value.... Value is Not Color! When we talk about Value, we're refering to a range
of highlights and shadows. Color on the other hand... refers to tone.... again... I'm not going to go into color at this point. But,
understand that the two terms cannot be used interchangeably!
