About the OMU!

What does "OMU" mean? Well, first and foremost, it stands for the Online Manga University, where your journey into the world of manga and anime styled art begins. In Japanese, omu means "to be born". That's what happened in August of 2000, when KatieO approached AzTech to create a university-themed website dedicated to teaching classical art techniques to the online art community. The concept was original, and held lots of potential for becoming successful. A new art website had been born.

What makes the OMU different than other art sites? We envisioned a place where new artists could gather and share ideas free of fears from being flamed and teased about their beginning attempts at art. Experienced members would also be welcome, to help teach the less experienced, and to help one another grow by sharing their ideas with one another.

So far, we think we've met those objectives.

Are we really that successful? We started out at GeoCities, with a few tutorials and art resource links. We simply outgrew that venue. After our move to kuiki.net, and with some help from our good friends at the PolyKarbon EZBoard, we've expanded the site not once, but twice. So far, we average six new members a week at the OMU Student Lounge, our BBS. The Student Admissions section, our guestbook, averages fifteen new visitors a week. The OMU main page gets about a thousand new hits a month. We have a lot in store for our members in the very near future. New tutorials, new links to other art resources, and of course the BBS, all are dedicated to providing you, the online artist, with a pleasurable learning experience.

What does OMU mean? It's the Online Manga University, one of the best online resources for the beginning art student, that is getting better all the time. Thanks for visiting, and welcome aboard.
